One body of work · Many ways to apply it

A portfolio career.
A common thread.

I’m Jay Mandel: consultant, coach, author, teacher, and founder. The roles connect through one question: how do we close the gap between what people are promised and what they actually experience?

I didn’t begin with a grand plan for a portfolio career. I kept following questions that deserved a better answer—and finding different ways to work on them.

The foundation

Experience I carry into the next assignment.

My corporate career showed me how good ideas get caught between teams, incentives, and ownership. Independent work lets me bring that experience closer to the people facing the problem. I founded YourBrandCoach and the Marketing Accountability Council; I understand the responsibility of building something myself.

How the work connects

Each part gives the others something to work with.

Client work gives me questions to examine. Writing sharpens the language. Teaching tests the explanation. Coaching brings it back to the person who needs to act.

01

Writing

Observe a familiar experience. Ask the question beneath it. Turn it into a story people recognize, question, and discuss.

02

Teaching

Make an idea usable through examples, exercises, and conversation. Give people a method they can practice after the session.

The shared methodCuriosity → Candor → Collaboration

Ask what we’re missing. Say what the evidence supports. Build the response together.

03

Consulting

Take the questions into a real business. Examine the evidence, name the decision, and help the team move the work forward.

04

Coaching

Help a person make their expertise legible, strengthen their judgment, and communicate what the work requires from others.

Marketing Accountability Council

Accountability in public

I founded MAC to examine the gap between marketing claims and business behavior. Trust Gap makes the Trust Index usable for reflection; my IAE Governance Lab work develops questions about AI, permission, evidence, and responsibility.

Clean Data AllianceIn planning

A gathering point for the work

Bring the questions into the room.

The Clean Data Alliance conference I’m planning would connect these efforts around data, AI, trust, and responsibility. I envision writing that raises questions, practitioners who bring examples, and working sessions that turn those examples into practices people can test.

I want the gathering to produce useful relationships, applications, and findings worth publishing. The program is being developed; speakers, sponsors, and dates are not announced here.

The next chapter I’m building

Bring this observing eye to a paid writing assignment.

I want commissioned work that draws on my authorship, years in business, curiosity, candor, and humor. Audience response shows that I can find something people recognize. The next ambition is to bring that instinct to reporting shaped by an editor and worth a reader’s time.

Put the connection to work

Bring me a problem that keeps resurfacing.

We can examine what is blocking progress, decide who needs to be involved, and agree on a practical next step. The format follows the need: consulting, coaching, a workshop, or a clearer story.
